Offline Workflow

Overview

The ability to work in the Synergy Editor while offline is very helpful tool when you find yourself without an internet connection. With a small amount of preparation, you have the ability to continue your work offline, and have that work sync back up when you regain an internet connection.

Ensure video has been cached

In order to ensure you can work with video while in offline mode in the Synergy Editor, you must ensure that all video files have been cached on your device. Video that is sent from the Synergy Team Site to the Synergy Editor, is cached on your device to optimize your video playback experience. This also allows you to view the video files while offline.

Locate the video on the Team Site that you would like to work with, whether it is a set of clips, or the Full Game Video. Click the blue link associated with the video and ensure you have Editor selected for Playback in the Video playback parameters pop up. You can name the edit if you would like, then click OK to send them to the Editor.

Once the playlist has been sent to the Editor, it will populate in the lower panel, and you will see the clip numbers change from grey to black, signifying that the clip has been cached. Once all of the clips have turned black, the playlist is cached on your device.

When caching a Timeline, from a Full Game Video for example, you can view the grey bar above the timeline, turn to blue as it caches. Once the entire bar has turned blue, the entire timeline has been cached on your device.

Working Offline

When offline, the online status indicator in the bottom right corner, will turn grey, as opposed to green when you are online.

You can continue to make changes to all edits and clips, as long as they have been cached. This includes Creating New Custom Edits, adding clips to Edits, Tagging, adding Notes, Text Overlay, and trimming in/out points of clips, as well as adding slides to your Edits.

Once you regain an internet connection, and the Editor is online, indicated by the green bars in the bottom left of the window, all of the changes that have been made offline will sync with the cloud. The cloud icon next to the online indicator will turn white while uploading the changes to the cloud.

Once the cloud indicator has turned grey, all changes have been updated, and you can then share your edits just as you normally would.

Managing Your Cached Clips

In order to prevent your device from running out of disk space, it is important to periodically clear your cached clips. When older files are cleared, clips you have not accessed since that time will not be playable again unless you are Online. This means, even if the have been removed from the cache, once accessed again online, the clips will be re-cached, and will again be available for offline playback. None of your Edits or clips will be deleted when the cache is cleared, only the supporting cached video is removed.

In the Options menu of the Synergy Editor, you can set how long to keep cached clips on your device before being automatically cleared. Choose from after one Week, one Month, six Months, or Never. Click OK to save your choice. You can also click the Clear Cache Now button to clear your whole cache immediately
