In this article, we will discuss the data filter definitions that you will find when using the Synergy Sports Softball Application.  


The Synergy Softball app currently provides the following player and game state (data) filters and sub-filters.  Sub-filters will become available after the report has been created (for most primary filters): 

  • Pitcher(s): Select or search from the list of pitchers that pitched in the original data set

          


    • Pitch Delivery
    • Mound Position
    • Leg Kick/ Slide Step
    • Arm Release Angle
  • Hitter(s): Select or search from the list of hitters who batted in the original data set.
    • Hands
    • Stride
    • Leg Kick
    • Swing Type
  • Left/Right: Filter results to include only left-handed or right-handed pitchers, and/or left-handed or right-handed hitters.     

                                               

  • Fielder(s): Select or search fielders from the list of fielders from the original data set. Note that the fielder in this filter is the first player to touch the ball after it was hit. Fielder Position

  • Baserunner(s): Select or search from the list of baserunners that were on base during the original data set.

  • Catcher(s): Select or search from the list of catchers that received pitches in the original data set.
    • Blocks
    • Throws

  • Camera Angle
    • Displays each available Camera Angle from both single angle and multi-angle pitches
    • A drop-down menu with two different playback options
    • All pitches with at least one selected angle
      • Eg: Select Broadcast and Low Home, then all pitches with either angle would be displayed
    • Only pitches including each selected angle
      • Eg: Select Broadcast and Low Home, then only pitches including both angles would be displayed
    • For multi-angle pitches, selected option(s) display in right video window by default
    • "As Logged" clips display in the left video window by default
    • Data available beginning in 2018 for Synergy logged games   

          

  • Game(s):Narrow the selection of games that are displayed in your reports and charts. By default, the data filters will show everything that has been logged for the initial player (or other selection). You can select one or multiple games to filter. Expand the subfilters by selecting the arrow to the right. Use the additional quick filters to select
    • Start Date
    • End Date
    • Previous # Games
    • Previous # At Bats
    • Day of the Week
    • Game Type
    • Conference(S)
    • Division(s).     

           

  • Innings: Narrow the data set to specific innings of play by:

          


    • Range: Toggle the bar to select which range of innings you would like to include.
      • You can also choose to manually type into designated boxes on the left and right.
      • Click “Add Range” to filter multiple inning ranges. For example, you can include innings 2-4 and 6-8.
      • To delete a range, you can click “Delete Range” and then select the red “X” on the right-hand side to clear.
    • Grouped Innings: You can select a specific group of innings from the pre-designated list. You can select one or multiple options from this panel.
    • Individual Innings: You can select a specific inning from this list. You can select one or multiple innings from this panel to include.
    • Extra Innings: This panel is the same as individual innings, however, it separates the extra innings from the regular game-length innings.
  • Score: Narrow the data set to plays where the score of the game is within the set range. You can select one or multiple filters to apply.

          


    • Range: You can toggle the bar to select which range of scores you would like to include. You can also choose to manually type into designated boxes on the left and right.
      • Click Add Range to filter multiple score ranges. For example, you can include -5 to -1 and 1 to 6 to eliminate every play when the game is tied.
      • If you would like to delete a range, you can click Delete Range and then select the red X on the right side to clear.
  • Runners on Base: Narrow the data set to scenarios in which there are (or are not) runners on base. You can select one or multiple filters to apply.         

          

  • Outs: With this filter, you can narrow the data set to scenarios in which there are a specific number of outs. You can select one or multiple filters to apply.

          

  • Count: Narrow the data set to scenarios with a specific pitch count. You can select one or multiple filters to apply.   

          

  • Pitch Type/Velocity: Narrow the data set to specific pitch types, as well as to pitches with a specific velocity. You can select one or multiple filters to apply.

           


    • Pitch Velocity average column added to the right of each available Pitch Type
    • Pitch Velocity range now reflective of total velocity range based on search and filters
    • Click Add Range to filter multiple pitches. For example, you can include changeups that are above 85 MPH and fastballs above 90 MPH.
    • If you would like to delete a range, you can click Delete Range and then select the red X on the right side to clear.
  • Pitch Result: Narrow the data set to plays in which the pitch resulted in a specific scenario, such as a ball, strike, in play, etc. You can select one or multiple filters to apply.

         

  • Pitch Zones: Narrow the data set to pitches in specific zones both inside and outside the strike zone. Please note that the innermost box represents the strike zone while the area between the boxes represents the “one ball off zone” (the equivalent to one baseball width outside of the strike zone). You can select one or multiple filters to apply in addition to 4 group filters.

          

  • BIP Type: Narrow the data set to plays in which the ball was put into play, and then further narrow it down to a specific type of play (i.e. ground ball, fly ball, etc.) You can select one or multiple filters to apply.

          

  • BIP Result: With this filter, you can narrow the data set to plays in which the ball was put into play, and then further narrow it down to a specific result (i.e. safe/out, fielder’s choice, error, etc.) You can select one or multiple filters to apply.

         

  • BIP Zones (Multi-Game & Reports):A visual filter with 24 individual BIP Zones for balls in play. Click the desired area from the baseball field diagram:

  • BIP Hardness: Narrow the data set to at-bat result by distance or strength at which the ball is hit. 

          

  • Non-BIP Result: Narrow the data set to at-bat result pitches in at-bats that did not end with a ball put in play (i.e. strikeout, walk, etc.) You can select one or multiple filters to apply.

         

  • Baserunner Movement (Multi-Game & Reports): Use to filter Safe and Out options for baserunner movement:

          

  • Bunts: Narrow the data set to pitches where a bunt attempt was made by the hitter, and then further narrow it down to what type of bunt attempt occurred, if the bunt was put into play and the trajectory of the bunt. You can select one or multiple filters to apply.

          

  • Pitch # Sequence: With this filter, you can narrow the data set to the specific number pitch within an at-bat (i.e. all 1 st pitches of an at-bat.) Additionally, there is an option within this filter to filter for all last pitches of an at-bat. You can select one or multiple filters to apply.

          

  • Pitch # Count: Narrow the data set to a range of pitch numbers of a pitcher’s appearance (i.e. the 1 st 20 pitches from all a pitcher’s outings.) You can select one or multiple filters to apply.
    • Click Add Range to add an additional range of pitches.

           

  • Lineup Order: With this filter, you can narrow the data set to pitches seen by hitters in a specific spot in the lineup (i.e. all pitches seen by the leadoff hitter.) You can select one or multiple filters to apply.

          

  • Hitter(s) Position: Narrow the data set to pitches seen by hitters in playing a specific position at the time of the at-bat (i.e. all pitches that were seen by the first baseman.) You can select one or multiple filters to apply.
