How to Setup my Youtube Stream?

Modified on Wed, 25 Jun at 4:05 PM

There are two options when streaming a production to YouTube:

1.) Streaming a production that you can schedule yourself within Sportshub.

2.) Streaming a production that Synergy has scheduled for you. i.e. A Division I game.

Option 1: Games that you  can schedule from SportsHub or the iOS app

1.) To being you can either go to https://www.youtube.com/live_dashboard or https://youtube.com and then click on the camera icon on the top right corner of your screen.

2.) Once you click on the camera icon you will see the following image options below.

Click on the "Go Live" option.

3.) If you click on the Go Live option or go directly go to the live dashboard using the following link

https://www.youtube.com/live_dashboard, you will see the following image menu below. This

menu will allow you to schedule a future broadcast or allow you to access the "Go Live" option.

4.) Once you have chosen your option above, you will the be faced with the option to use a Built-in webcam or Streaming Software.

Note: You must ALWAYS choose the "Streaming Software" option.

5.) Once you have either schedule a broadcast or use the "Go Live" option, you will then be presented with the screen shot below. Copy your stream URL and stream key together.

Example: You will need to combine both your stream URL and stream key into a single URL. Your stream URL will be like the following link rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2 and your stream key would look like a series of random letters and numbers such as this: dasm-78re-mmur-kzxz-74fa

Friendly Reminder: You will need to add a forward slash at the end of the stream URL and then place the stream key after the forward slash.

An example of this would be: rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2/dasm-78re-mmur-kzxz-74fa

6.) Once the stream is configured in YouTube and you have copied the endpoint destination, you will need to set this endpoint in our applications.

7.) The first step is to ensure that the External Streaming Destination parameter is set to RTMP/SRT configuration for the competition that the game is scheduled in.

Please refer to this article https://support.synergysports.com/support/solutions/articles/77000582074-how-to-edit-a-stream-configuration in order to accomplish this.

8a.) If you expect the RTMP endpoint will be the same for all games in the competition, please copy the endpoint from section 5 in the "RTMP / SRT configuration (remote server)" field in the stream configuration page of your competition as explained in the following link: https://support.synergysports.com/support/solutions/articles/77000582074-how-to-edit-a-stream-configuration

8b.)  If you expect the RTMP endpoint to change for each game of the competition, leave the "RTMP/SRT configuration (remote server)" field in the stream configuration page of your competition empty. Update then the streaming endpoint for that game only from the scheduling page as explained in the following article:

 https://support.synergysports.com/support/solutions/articles/77000582320-how-to-change-the-stream-destination-for-a-recording

Note: Please make sure that you save any custom RTMP changes by clicking the "Save" button at the bottom of the screen.

Option 2:  Streaming a Game that is Synergy Scheduled (Division I) or Games imported from you Competition Management Platform

Note: Please be aware that points 1 through 5 in Option 1 are going to be the first 5 points within Option 2.

1.) Update the streaming endpoint for that game only from the scheduling page as explained in the following article https://support.synergysports.com/support/solutions/articles/77000582320-how-to-change-the-stream-destination-for-a-recording

2.) If the rtmp/srt endpoint is greyed out in the streaming page of the game, this means that the game is managed through the Video Stream Manager (VSM) and you should edit the streaming destination in VSM. If you don't have access to VSM, please reach out to production control (synergy-productioncontrol@sportradar.com) so they can assist editing the streaming destination.
